My First Scottish Summit (2021) – Rambling and Thank Yous

Beginning of February last year I was chatting to our amazing friend Carina Claesson about how she was preparing for her session for Scottish Summit 2020 in Glasgow. At that time, I had not heard of Scottish Summit before and when I googled and landed on their website, I was instantly in awe… I just wanted to pack my bags and fly to Glasgow to attend all the sessions presented by the amazing lineup of speakers! My wish then was that one day I would be able to attend one of these conferences as an attendee.

Then came September 2020, our “Iron Man”, Natraj Yegnaraman (who we’ve clearly established yesterday that he loves YAML, with intellisense provided of course 😉), asked whether I would like to submit a topic for Scottish Summit 2021. If you know Natraj, he is super supportive and leads by example, and lo and behold, he planted an idea!

Fast forward to 2021, and I have presented as one of the new speakers at Scottish Summit 2021! What an amazing experience! I feel truly humbled and grateful to have been given the opportunity and I have learnt so much from it. It makes you realise how lucky you are to be part of this amazing community – always lifting each other up.

The initiative to give the main stage floor to new speakers the week leading up to the main event was so well thought through and executed. As new speakers, a couple of months before the event, we were given great presentation tips from Dona Sarkar and got assigned a mentor so that we would be supported at all times. My mentor, Kaila Bloomfield, was full of energy and wisdom and she literally swooped in when I needed her advice most and helped build up some confidence as I was trying to prepare for my presentation.

I can only imagine the tremendous amount of hard work and effort that has gone into organising an event like this. To the rest of us, everything seemed so seamless! Seriously, thank you again to Mark Christie, Iain Connolly, event staff, volunteers, mentors and sponsors. Truly the unsung heroes.

There are other heroes in my life as well – families, colleagues, friends and close community members who constantly, in their own unique ways, supported and encouraged me. Special thanks to my husband Wilhelm, as well as my manager, Tijn Tacke, who had to cope and deal with me during this process! 🤣

I guess the point of this post is to say thank you and to show appreciation and gratitude to everyone who helped me to prepare for this session. I really hope you enjoyed it and if you haven’t watched it yet, you can find the recording here:
